Sylwia Juszkiewicz

RN

Sylwia Juszkiewicz headshotSylwia Juszkiewicz was born in Wysokie Mazowieckie, Poland, and pursued her nursing education at the Medical Vocational College in Ostroleka. After receiving her nursing diploma, she dedicated her services to work at the Neurology Clinic of the Jagiellonian University CM, later joining the Krakow Ambulance Service, where she currently serves.

She completed courses in neurological and anesthesia nursing to enhance her capabilities. As an ambulance transport nurse, Sylwia has regularly participated in the Emergency Medical Service Championships, winning local and national honors. When not working as a transport nurse, she’s involved in social and charitable activities.

Her achievements as a volunteer RN Transport Team Member are many. The Polish people and their neighbors have been and are victims of wars. In 2014, Sylwia inspired her superiors to send an ambulance with medical aid to the participants of the Orange Revolution in Kiev and Maidan. She volunteered to be the RN member of the approved transport team, which was able to take medical supplies to Lviv, and seriously injured patients from a hospital in Kiev to an advanced and safe care center in Poland.

In 2002 when a civilian patient was injured after a rocket explosion, suffering amputations of a foot, hand, and upper limb, Sylwia’s transport team went into action and successfully evacuated the patient back to Polish healthcare services.

Sylwia has remained on the RN transport volunteer listing to support the evacuation of wounded Ukrainians to Polish hospitals. She has received honors from two Presidents of Poland: one in 2009 and the other in 2018.

Sylwia’s story:

Sylwia inspired her superiors to send an ambulance with medical aid to the participants of the Orange Revolution in Kiev’s Maidan in 2014. She was able to take medical supplies to the Maydan Aid Center in Lviv, and later took an injured young boy with an amputated lower leg and a gunshot wound to the abdomen from a hospital in Kiev.

In 2022, also as a volunteer, she took part in two relief operations, transporting the wounded from Ukraine to Poland.

In May: a civilian patient, after a rocket explosion with an amputated foot, hand, upper limb external fusion and stoma, who was accompanied by her husband with their 6-year-old son.

In July: a military patient with amputation of both feet after a mine explosion.

Another trip did not materialize because the Ukrainian side canceled the operation when the ambulances were already at the Polish-Ukrainian border. Sylwia is still available as a volunteer.
