Anna’s story:
During a conversation, I mentioned to Anna that I was having a challenge completing a UN Research Pilot Study on training human trafficking to large healthcare systems — I needed two more international sites. Anna quickly stated she is from Italy with many family and contacts there, including within the healthcare area. She offered to introduce me to her healthcare colleagues.
What happened next was remarkable. The ‘Italian team’ from two of the largest hospital and universities in Italy would welcome being part of the UN Study and having their employees receive the training. However, it would be best to deliver this training in their native language, Italian. Anna, generously offered her time and talent to help translate — and be the translator! Anna worked hard and helped translate videos as well as presentation content. She put many hours in preparation before the training — and it showed, it went flawlessly!
During the Q&A session, the participants were quiet and said that they ‘felt shame.’ They had never received such training and they never knew human trafficking was so bad and right in their own backyards. They were hungry for more!
After completion, the Ambassador for the order of Malta was so impressed, he decided to share it worldwide for anyone needing an Italian version of the human trafficking — certainly impacting hundreds and thousands of people globally! Given the current Ukraine refugee crisis, this training couldn’t have been done at a more appropriate time.
