Jacob Turmell is one of the rare RNs who have dedicated their service to others through helping guide a corporation (Philips) in developing and rolling out products and services that make the nursing profession more effective. As a Registered Nurse for over 18 years, Jacob’s clinical focus has been on the care of cardiac and critical care patients. Before joining Philips, Jacob held roles as a bedside RN, travel RN, hospital supervisor, and unit manager.
In 2006, he graduated with Master of Science in Nursing and continues today to serve as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with experience as both a Nurse Practitioner and a Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist. In his role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, he has contributed to the improvement of the care of sepsis patients through the use of an automated early warning tools to better identify those patients at risk.
He also was instrumental in standardizing the care of the patient on continuous cardiac monitoring.
He worked to improve nursing workflow when caring for these patients and to improve communication between the RN and monitor technologies, with a passion for process improvement, standardization, and improving nursing efficiency – all while improving patient safety.
In 2015, Jacob completed his Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree with a concentration on System Leadership. His work and results have been recently been published in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality.
He joined Philips Healthcare in 2016 and brings a vast knowledge base in cardiology, patient monitoring, alarm management, nursing workflows, standards of care, healthcare informatics, and healthcare economics – all which can be leveraged to help non-profit hospitals and organizations improve care for everybody, everywhere.
