It is with great pride and joy that I personally nominated Irma Percinthe as a charter recipient of our Nurses With Global Impact award at the United Nations on May 12, 2017. Irma is the Nurse Coordinator/Educator and BLS instructor at Hospital Sacré-Coeur in Milot, Haiti (HSCM). She has been a nurse for over twenty-three years, having studied at the Nursing School of Cap-Haitian, graduating in 1994.

Two years after her graduation she joined HSCM as a part-time nurse and was employed as an RN in 2000. She was soon promoted to Nurse Supervisor based on her outstanding performance and commitment to quality of care for the patients and her dedication to teamwork.

In 2001, she became the Head Nurse in charge of the Internal Medicine Department where she is currently working, and every year since Irma has been serving her fellow Haitians with great skill and grace.

But the reason for Irma’s award, specifically, is her service following the earthquake that devastated Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, in 2010. In order to better serve, including in times of crisis, Irma invested in special ACLS training and became a BLS instructor for American volunteers who were coming to HSCM on a regular basis during and after the tragedy.

Although she lives in Cap-Haitian (about 19km from the hospital) Irma never misses a chance to get more training whenever she has the opportunity! She is a sterling example of a talented nurse continually educating herself and educating others.

Since 2013, Irma has served as Nurse Coordinator and Chief of Nursing in the Department of Internal Medicine at HSCM, a role she has earned and continues excel at every day.

Congratulations, Irma, and thank you again for your inspirational work, healing and teaching!
