I arrived at the #Safe2016DC conference in time to join a workshop featuring Dr. Jeff Brodsky, President/Founder of JOY International. They team up with local law enforcement agencies and healthcare and social workers to RESCUE victims – mostly girls being sold in countries and shipped in containers to other countries around the world. 1800+ rescues to date!
They also finance micro businesses to help victims get in their feet post-rescue – mostly in Cambodia and India. He along with Dr. Kalyani Gopal, organizer of the conference, are setting up a “Safe Village” in the US for rescued victim’s restoration and reintegration.
The only solution to stop this, he says, is to stop demand, and prosecute pimps and john’s- not the prostitutes who are the victims – with mandatory long-term sentences, and continue to educate and raise awareness – all while continuing to rescue as many as possible!
My presentation has been moved to 10:30am tomorrow while I’ve been asked to be a panelist on a few breakout sessions this afternoon.
