BD nominates Elisa Shaffer MSN RN CRNI for the 2022 Nurses with Global Impact award.
During her time at BD, Elisa has had multiple instances where she is creating global impact. As one of the primary facilitators for our vascular access management program, Elisa is focused on how to reduce complications and help clinicians provide optimal care to all patients receiving intravenous therapy.
Elisa has also been an integral member of BD’s partnership with Heart to Heart International on where she helped to co-develop and conduct virtual training to help nurses working in remote, rural health clinics in Eswatini, Africa to learn effective strategies for reducing the high rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the region.
With the focus on HIV and TB for several decades, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have not been addressed in a significant way, despite being a growing public health concern.
BD’s in-country partner for this service initiative, Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital, delivered a comprehensive plan to address the situation by leveraging nursing staff in local clinics. Elisa, along with other BD volunteers, was able to support this effort by co-developing and delivering training to teach local nurses how to identify patients with NCDs and how to use standardized protocols for appropriate treatments.
Elisa truly lives the mission of BD by advancing the world of health.

Elisa’s story:
Elisa Shaffer joined BD Medical as a Clinical Specialist in 2014 and has served as an area field trainer since 2017. In 2021 Elisa joined the clinical solutions team as a solutions manager.
She earned her BSN in 2007 from the University of Delaware (Go Blue Hens) and her MSN in nursing education in December 2019 from Drexel University. She has over fourteen years of nursing experience working in oncology, critical care, and as a charge nurse and a clinical preceptor for new graduate nurses.
Most recently Elisa has been volunteering as a nurse educator with Heart-to-Heart teaching for a virtual assignment in Eswatini.
Elisa resides in Swampscott, MA with her husband and two children, Charles who is 6, and Hannah who is 3, and is expecting her third child in May. She enjoys spending time with her family, running, and walking their family dog George, a French bulldog!
