Lisa’s story:
Lisa is the founder of an innovative program of care for the patient and her family for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. She recognized the need and moved forward to implement PMAD at Medical Center, a member of RWJBarnabas Health. PMAD is a under diagnosed and treated mental health issue that affects 1 in 9 women during the postpartum period. What makes this care so unique is that all care is delivered as a direct extension of Antepartum, Intrapartum and Postpartum Care within the Department of Ob-Gyn with Mother/Baby Nurses, Social Workers, Peer Volunteers, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners all with specialty training and a devotion to PMAD. Having these workers directly under the AVP of Mother/Baby and the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology helps usher the patient from the hospital, the PCP office and/or self-referral directly and smoothly into a continuance of patient care which now includes maternal mental health care without fear or shame.
Under Lisa’s management not only did the program continue during the trying times of the Pandemic, its enrollment increased 3-fold. The PMAD program is now recognized both nationally and internationally with Lisa presenting nationally at medical seminars and being interviewed on radio and television. The PMAD program is a model in maternal mental health for other hospital systems throughout the country trying to improve women’s mental health.
As the chairman of the Department of OB-GYN it is my privilege and honor to work with Lisa. All of us at Monmouth Medical Center are proud of her and fortunate to have as a member of our staff.
