Non-profit honors nurses in front line roles who demonstrate exemplary practice by impacting the global delivery of healthcare

May 11, 2018; NY, NY – Nurses With Global Impact, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support opportunities for nurses to contribute to global projects through medical volunteerism and more, and to share inspiring stories about nursing throughout the year, today celebrated their second annual International Nurses Day event at the United Nations (UN).

The event featured keynote addresses from leaders in global medicine, while also honoring twenty-one remarkable nurses from around the world.

International Nurses Day (IND) is an international day celebrated around the world on 12 May (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) of each year, to mark the contributions nurses make to society. Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing.

There are celebrations around the world; the U.S. celebrates National Nursing Week each year from May 6 to May 12.

“After a very successful inaugural event last year, also at the UN, we  more than doubled the size in 2018 given the tremendous level of interest,” said Deb O’Hara Rusckowski, Founder and President of the organization. “Our keynote speakers this year included Dr. Teresa Tyson and Dr. Paula Hill, 2017 NWGI Nurse Honorees, who presented their collaborative work with our co-sponsors for the underprivileged in rural Appalachia with their Health Wagon, and Dr. Sarah Timmapuri, Cardiologist and Chief Clinical Informatics Officer for Hackensack Meridian Health, and CEO of LIG Global Foundation, who will present on EHR’s and Nursing Burnout.”
